What is Graston Therapy?
Graston Therapy is a specialized form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) designed to help detect and treat areas of scar tissue, muscle tightness, and fascial restrictions. Using uniquely shaped stainless steel tools, your practitioner applies controlled pressure to gently break down adhesions and stimulate the body’s natural healing processes.
How does it work?
Over time, injuries, repetitive stress, or surgery can lead to scar tissue and restricted mobility in muscles, tendons, or ligaments. Graston Therapy helps identify these problem areas by amplifying what the hands feel and then treating them effectively. The precise scraping technique encourages improved blood flow, reduced inflammation, and faster tissue repair.

Benefits of Graston Therapy:
• Reduced pain and chronic inflammation
• Restores normal range of motion
• Speeds up recovery from injuries (ex. tendinopathies)
• Treats conditions such as tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, IT band syndrome, and more
• Complements other manual therapy and rehabilitation exercises
What to expect during a session
Your therapist will first assess the affected area and apply a small amount of emollient to reduce friction. Then, using the Graston instruments, they will perform gentle scraping strokes across the skin. You may experience mild redness or slight bruising afterward- this is normal and part of the healing process.
If you’re experiencing tightness, chronic pain, or limited mobility, Graston Therapy may be an effective addition to your treatment plan. Talk to us to see if it’s right for you!
